Suburban Canyon: Great American Corporate Center
A pair of elliptical towers nested into a highly formalized hardscape, Suburban Canyon aims to step out of the inevitable anonymity of sprawl and reshape the flat suburban skyline of Silicon Valley. With this winning design Form4 Architecture intends to promote an architectural identity in a place expected to grow to a population of one million. This is a prime example of placemaking at an iconic level and at an urban level.
Intended as a gateway to the region, the towers are prominently visible from Highway 101 and clearly maximize the building’s long and narrow site. Despite the sound and air pollution that often comes with sites located near highways, Form4 Architecture subdivided the site into narrower parcels, the middle partitions of which transform into a canyon that gives way to interwoven spaces designed to attract pedestrians. In a similar way the aspect of parking is thoughtfully exploited, through the programmatic and aesthetic transformation of the vast garage rooftop and its inner edges into a public landscaped internal street and park.
