The Ark: Walnut Creek Condos

Part of a transit-oriented development project in the city of Walnut Creek, Walnut Creek Condos commission is a five-story building of eleven residential condominiums designed for LEED Silver certification. The search for an iconic object—contemporary, crisp, and with character—bore a distinct massing with angled rooflines and dynamic architectural forms. The cathedral-like c-shaped roof-to-ground structure of wood and glass is open to panoramic views of Mount Diablo to the east.

Lauded by City Council members as an exemplary project of design finesse and environmental strength, the angled roofs, overhangs, and solar panels, combined with a crafted mélange of textured stone, wood, and glass, as well as a prominent Parklex at the front of the building, all come together to create an environmentally conscious and aesthetically compelling housing project.
