Great American Lobby

Information -
Great American Lobby

The proposed Great American Lobby is a pair of office towers set against the backdrop of an amusement park. The towers occupy a gateway location off Highway 101 and will ultimately become the heart of a larger office complex. Behind the anonymity of the enclosure is an intricate meeting of details within details and inlaid designs.

The towers’ Inlaid Box lobbies are an example of incision in architectural massing and detailing. The interiors are housed in two diamond-shaped volumes with floor plates that decrease in size as they rise above the ground and are rotated 45-degrees relative to each other. The corner of each building is slightly chamfered to ease access to the enclosure. Visitors progress into the round space through a pinch point and pierce into an anteroom right before the elevator lobby. The circular elements as well as the expansion and contraction of these laminated circles dissolve the relentlessness of the exterior architectural form. Vertical stainless steel fins are like the measures of a musical staff defined by the horizontal subdivisions of the cladding panels, resulting in an architectural score that is both an etude in steel and wood and also in stone and plaster. This immersive environment constantly keeps the senses on edge.
